With Sarah having grown up in Maine, visiting Peaks for daytrips, we were one of the many people who dreamed of having a little place on the island to call our own and share with others.
In the fall of 2016, we finally got the chance.
Ocean House — then known as "Backshore Paradise" — had weathered its share of Atlantic storms. It was older, worn in places, and in need of serious attention. We saw exactly what it could be: a place where the waves crash across the street at Whaleback Rock, where every window frames a different slice of Casco Bay, and where guests could experience the unhurried, salt-in-the-air joy of real Maine island life.
So we got to work. We renovated it room by room, stocked it with everything we'd want to find as guests ourselves — a proper kitchen for the food lovers, a Kids' Nook for the families, beach gear, board games, cozy nooks for rainy days, and two sun decks for the sunrises that will stop you mid-coffee. We thought of the little things, because the little things are what make a vacation feel like home.
What we didn't anticipate was how much we'd love hosting. Guest after guest has become part of the Ocean House story — families who return every summer, couples who found exactly the quiet they were looking for, groups of friends who've made it their annual ritual. That means more to us than we ever expected, and we delight in being able to be a part of the beautiful memories being made by everyone who visits.
Ocean House is our home away from home. We hope it becomes yours.
We're hands-on hosts who believe the best stays start before you arrive. We answer questions quickly, share our favorite island spots, and have genuinely tried to think of everything — so you can step off the ferry and exhale.
